Racism!!!

There are few sites I religiously browse whenever I log into my system at work; Gmail, Orkut and Cricinfo for my own interests and MoneyControl, Company Websites to derive some interest in work.

And I was thrilled to see the Cricinfo headline today (http://content-ind.cricinfo.com/india/content/current/story/319671.html) which shows Greg Chappell complaining of racial abuse in India. I loved this piece of news.

First of all, the disclaimer - I am not a racist to the core though some amount of it I enjoy as almost everyone does; they may not accept it though. It’s just the sadist human nature, nothing else.

I just don’t want to argue on the authenticity of the news though with a little bit of alacrity about the circumstances and information about the incident would do a litmus test and you would know the truth of fire in the smoke.

For ages our complaint about racism by the white cricket nations and it has gone unheard. When we complained, we were not competitive enough or mentally disintegrated. Be it Sudhir Nayak’s debacle or Michael Slater pointing finger towards the umpire Venkatraghwan & batsman Rahul Dravid or a match referee banning the entire cricket team. Be it Sunil Gavaskar’s Lords fiasco in 1990 or Australians refusing to play in SL in 1996 WC. When we complained, it was their superiority and our inferiority but not racism.

But now, Chapell complains of racism. So does Andrew Symonds. And I hope there are more to follow. Are the tables hinting a turn?

Its simple, cricket may be alive because it’s popular in few countries but its kicking just because of its popularity that too mainly in India. So the turn must happen. I simply loved it when India showed its middle finger to the Mike Dennis’s decision in SA and played their full team in the next match. It doesn’t matter if the match was discounted later. But at least BCCI showed the intent. They should do exactly the same now. Its BCCI who should call the shots these days, not them. To add, I would love to have more allegations of racism like this.

Heh!
Celebrating defiance of racism is admirable, however celebrating reverse racism is not. I think you ought to make this distinction.

I dont kno why even educated Indians can be so callous

who said all the fiascos that u have mentioned can be attributed to superiority and not racism. Its racism that has turned the tables and not their superiority to our inferiority.

Vibhash Prakash Awasthi said...

Dear dreamer....go check ur history..u wud know if it was racism or not

Vibhash Prakash Awasthi said...

spiff....if a suppressed has to defend, he has to hit back and that is called revolt not an attempt for reverse suppression..

Spiff said...

@ Vibhash : I agree with what you write in the comment. But your post surely comes out as if you are supporting reverse racism. Let you be more careful while writing and me while reading.

And one other thing..Ignore dreamer..he is just a spammer

i loved it when they got the taste of their own medicine...thats why the post says..dunno wht u understood...

Spiff said...

i am sorry if the distinction between action against discrimination and reverse discrimination is too subtle for you..

peace

if someones keeps hitting u..how do u let him know it hurts....hit back..or u look into dictionery searching for definitions of a few words?

Spiff said...

Exactly,
So if you taunt Mike Denniss - Understandable..
Greg CHappell has never been accused of Racism. And he is overblowing the incident)..But ANdrew Symonds..As u very correctly asked Dreamer to study history, you should also know that Andrew Symonds is an aboriginal and along with Native americans, Aboriginal australians have been one of the worst victims of white supremacist culture of yore.

The thing is, you have never suffered from Racism, so all this distinctions may not matter to you, but there are many racial victims out there..so please be sensitive in what you write.

stop naming individuals and reading there bio datas...the post quotes them just as examples....i liked the hitting them against the whites in the world of cricket...nt avenging against a chapell or symonds...get some coherency in ur thought process

The instances you have mentioned cannot be technically termed as racism, although you can say that these were exhibitions of arrogance by certain individuals and injustice by certain institutions.

Racism implies comments which imply that a member of a certain race is intrinsically superior or inferior to members of other races.

The instances you have mentioned don't match the criteria, although implying that an aboriginal australian is like a monkey does.

Vibhash Prakash Awasthi said...

dude...there is always more to eyes thn they can see...and again, go check ur history and use common sense.

Saumyajit said...

I had mentioned the word "technically"

If we take your point, Bansal's lbw decisions could also be termed as racism. Are they?

Vibhash Prakash Awasthi said...

wow...now we have a technical angle too....

Saumyajit said...

of course, there is a need to separate racism from what is not racism, as it is a serious issue.

and even for the sake of argument, i take it that indeed the instances citedare examples of racism your following excerpt

"To add, I would love to have more allegations of racism like this."

is something that made no sense. you are increasing racism rather than removing it. it would point to you being a racist indian, and in no way better than the racist australian. both are equally deplorable.

read the comments above, u will get ur reply and i will save my time

Saumyajit said...

i had read through them, i did not find anything that would convince me about racism being an appropriate answer to racism

Vibhash Prakash Awasthi said...

there was a satire in the statement u are referring....as i said, there is always more to eyes thn they can see...even chapell has agreed that thr was no racism by indians in tht incident...chk cricinfo again

Dreamer said...

@vibhash....dude, ur logic is flawed...u confuse arrgance to racism...no wonder u r trailing in super selector and even novices like spiff r ahead of u...

guess u need to think more rationally
